Occurrence of Drunk Driving
Drunk driving is when someone who has more taken alcohol than is specified drives while drunk. In most incidences, this act is contrary to the law and therefore it is a crime. When drunk driving occurs, more often than not, accidents happen as a result. As a result of these accidents, road users could lose their lives, damage done to not only individual and but state property also.
Most of the drunk driving cases happen during the night, weekends and over the holidays. These times are when most people are free from their daily activities and they choose to have a good time by taking alcohol. Most of the accidents caused by drunk driving occur during these peak times. Some of the accidents may be fatal or could maim the victims and even the drivers.
Accidents brought by drunk driving come by so easily. A drunk person, as a result of the alcohol ingested, lose their sense of sound judgment this leads to them making bad behavioral decisions. Over speeding, ignoring of road signs that indicate things such as bumps are the traffic offenses caused by drunk driving.
A lot of publicity has been done so as to reduce the level of drinking and driving. Some taxi companies market their brands by having responsible usage of roads as their main agendas, but despite all that, drunk driving still happens as usual. The cases are at times brought down when taxi drivers strategically place themselves outside drinking joints to ferry the alcohol drinkers to their destinations instead of driving when drunk. It is important to put taxi drivers out of drinking joints But sometimes drivers go with their cars initially so they may find it inconvenient to leave their cars behind and they then opt to drunk driving. Sometimes drivers do not have cab money because they spent all of it on the alcohol they buy. Despite the factors that could prevent drunk driving, most drivers still end up driving while drunk for whatever reason.
Another way of preventing the drunk driving is when traffic police become more cautious during the peak times. As it is an offense against a country’s law, this way works because of the penalties imposed on the crime. Large sums of money may be demanded as fine and a jail term applied if the crime has destructive or fatal results. The drunk driver can end up losing their driving license.
Drunk driving does more harm than good to all the parties involved. People will never stop taking alcohol meaning drunk driving can never stop as well. The best alternative would be to stiffen the penalties for drunk driving. A weight is on people to gather the lessons learnt from the results of drunk driving and bring changes to generations to come. Children should be taught from their young age the repercussions of drunk driving and that they may grow up having that knowledge. This way, the generational change is achieved and thus doing away with drunk driving.
